Welcome to the story of the JC Middlebrook studio!
The studio was the first area we worked on when we bought our cottage. This pic is before we started the studio refurb!
That was how we kept the rain out for a while!
We lowered the ceiling a little!
Insulating the walls
Before, making sure all of the walls are tied in
Plasterboarding the walls, I had lots of power outlets installed, still don’t have enough!
Getting beautifully plastered with Matt Britton
OUtside the studio during it’s transformation
Plastered and beautiful bamboo floor laid. Now to FILL it!
While we refurbed our cottage, the studio was home. Studio by day became our lounge, dining room and bedroom at night
Poor Jack has to sleep around all of my mess while we were refurbing The Cottage
The original studio doors were a little bit draughty!
Time for some new doors, lets get rid of the ones held together with a black plastic bag!
Time for some new doors
The amazing MA Britton fitting the new studio doors
The new doors!
The Cottage was eventually finished and we moved out of the studio in June 2015. Time to move JCM in properly!

The JC Middlebrook *Virtual* Open Studio is 15-16th May 2021, please visit my Open Studio page to see what’s happening. As in previous years, I’m part of Open Studios Notts along with many of my Nottingham art comrades @OSNotts.
My studio is a very special place in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, I’m so so lucky to be based here. The studio is a former outbuilding in my garden, attached to my neighbour’s house. When we moved here in 2014, we actually lived in the newly plastered studio while we finished building work on The Cottage.
The gallery above shows some images from the refurb and other Open Studio events from 2016-2019. Please click on the gallery to flip through the photos and read the captions.
