Open Studios ‘Cotgrave Creatives’

The second weekend in May dawned a bit damp but bright, so we made the best of it with Open Studio, cakes and hot drinks. The first afternoon became cool but we had kids decorating the garden with drawings and colour, design your own lace design and a good amount of chilly chillin’! Sunday was the better day, weather- and visitor numbers-wise. Our Open Studios sign brought in a number … Read More →

Lace Skull Lampshade

Not one to leave it to the last minute, I’m taking photos of my new lampshades today! The trade show starts on Sunday, which means I have loads of time to pack the car and get all my things ready. The new lampshades are dark, in colour and motif. They feature the skull and eagle designs, made in black lace on a semi-opaque backing. The backing is cut from behind the … Read More →

Lace covered concrete box Nottingham Contemporary played host to their annual contemporary craft fair last weekend. This is my favourite craft fair of the year, being busy, local (to me) and packed full of contemporary handmade gifts and art. Plenty of illustrators, jewellers, textile artists and other makers gathered together in The Space, a concrete cube in the lower part of the brutalist gallery. I always enjoy the evening preview- … Read More →

Come on, you Foxes!

Lace Fox Head

Yes, Leicester City Football Club are in the news a lot currently. I’ll confess I’ve never been a fan of football, but am surrounded by avid watchers of the team. My sister is a massive fan, and a couple of years ago I designed a fox head in lace for her. I’ve had more interest in this design lately (who knew?) so I developed a smaller, card sized ornament to … Read More →

PorceLace Commission

PorceLace Makers

I collaborate creatively with ceramist Samantha Robinson, creating work for exhibition and for sale. We use the name ‘PorceLace’ for this work and have so far exhibited at the National Centre for Craft and Design. We are delighted to be commissioned by Nottingham’s Creative Quarter to create a street installation for Light Night 2016. We will be making a two metre wide lace ‘doily’ lit with over 130 tea lights, each embossed with original lace … Read More →

London Fashion Week

Each February and September, London plays host to Fashion Week, a chance for designers to show off collections for the forthcoming seasons, try out new ideas and network with contacts. I was lucky to be invited to showcase as part of The Catwalk Edit (organised by Calico PR) alongside over 50 other fashion brands. The venue was the beautiful Chelsea Old Town Hall, a grand old building in the heart … Read More →

JCM Lace at BCTF Harrogate

On the first weekend in April 2014, designer-makers from all over the UK will descend on North Yorkshire town of Harrogate to show their work at the British Craft Trade Fair. It’s the third year I have exhibited here and I’m looking forward to seeing customers old and new. I’ll be showing my wearable lace and, for the first time at BCTF, the framed lace pieces that were so well … Read More →

CRAFT London

I’m just back from exhibiting my work at CRAFT London. I was there with a group of designers supported by Design Factory. The show is a part of Top Drawer, a trade show covering giftware, fashion, print and interiors. It’s tag-line is ‘Re-defining Handmade’  and I was so pleased to be a part of that. I make my lace myself in my Nottingham studio, using technology and vivid shade to … Read More →

Harley Art Market

Lace at Harley Art Market

I’m gearing up for the Christmas shows with plenty of making and am preparing to show my lace jewellery and gifts at Harley Art Market next weekend. I’ve spent every day recently making lace, I’ve even taken the plunge and bought a second machine, which should really help me keep up with orders whilst working on new designs for launch in the New Year! At Harley I’ll have old favourites … Read More →
